Emmy Award winner and two-time Tony Award nominee Bobby Cannavale will star in a new Broadway production of Clifford Odets’ The Big Knife, to be presented by the Roundabout Theatre Company at the American Airlines Theatre March 22-June 2, 2013 with an official opening in April 2013 with exact date to be announced. Doug Hughes will direct.

This classic tale about keeping your integrity in the face of success is set in the golden age of Hollywood cinema, where actors may have all the glory, but studio execs have all the power. The Hoff-Federated studio has had its most successful star, Charlie Castle (Cannavale), over a barrel ever since it helped cover up a mistake that could have ended his career. When a woman with insider knowledge threatens to come forward, the studio heads will stop at nothing to protect Charlie’s secret… but how far is he willing to go before he quits the movie business for good?

Cannavale received Tony Award nominations for his performances in The Motherf**ker With a Hat and Mauritius. Among his other stage credits are Trust, Hurlyburly, F**king A, and A Flea in Her Ear. He received his Emmy for his work on Will & Grace.

The full cast and design team will be announced soon.

The Big Knife premiered on Broadway in 1949, directed by Lee Strasberg. Roundabout’s staging of the play will be the first new Broadway production since that time.

Single tickets will be available to the general public in the winter of 2013. Click here for more information on the Roundabout Theatre Company.
