UPDATE—May 8, 2013: Jane Lynch will join the Tony Award-nominated Broadway revival of Annie at the Palace Theatre on May 15, one day earlier than expected.

February 20, 2013: Jane Lynch, Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian and Glee‘s Sue Sylvester, will join the cast of Broadway’s Annie at the Palace Theatre beginning May 16. She will take on the role of Miss Hannigan for eight weeks only, through July 14.

Lynch is a stage veteran who has performed with Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre Company and The Second City, but this role will mark her Broadway debut. She will be replacing Tony Award-winning actress Katie Finneran (Promises, Promises) when Finneran leaves to begin filming a new NBC comedy series with Michael J. Fox.

Annie features music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and a book by Thomas Meehan. It is based on Harold Gray’s “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip. The score includes “Maybe,” “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” and “Tomorrow.”

The cast features Australian stage star Anthony Warlow as Daddy Warbucks and 13-year-old Lilla Crawford as Annie.

Jane Lynch’s many film credits include the Christopher Guest films Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. In addition to Glee, her TV credits include Party Down and The L Word. In 2012, Lynch voiced the character of Calhoun in the animated film Wreck-It Ralph.
