Audra McDonald, Sherie Rene Scott, and Lili Taylor Will Read First Wives Club Screenplay for Indigo Theatre Project

The cult-favorite film can be seen live only on July 7.

Audra McDonald, Sherie Rene Scott, and Lili Taylor will star in a one-night-only benefit reading of Robert Harling's cult-favorite screenplay The First Wives Club, a presentation of The Indigo Theatre Project, on July 7 at the Mainstage Theater at Playwrights Horizons. Trip Cullman will stage the evening, the proceeds of which will go to The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative.

Inspired by Olivia Goldsmith's 1992 novel of the same title, The First Wives Club tells the story of three middle-aged divorcees who seek revenge on their ex-husbands, who left them for younger women. McDonald will take on the role of Annie Paradis, with Scott as Elise Elliot, and Taylor as Brenda Cushman. The cast will also feature Will Swenson as Aaron Paradis, Jeremy Shamos as Morty Cushman, John Ellison Conlee as Bill Atchison, Rebecca Naomi Jones as Shelly Stewart/Young Annie, Katherine Waterston as Dr. Leslie Rosen/Young Cynthia, Margo Seibert as Phoebe LaVelle/Young Elise, Tracee Chimo as Chris Paradis/Jason Kushman/Young Brenda, Kristine Nielsen as Catherine McDuggan/ Gunilla Garson-Goldberg, Michael Cyril Creighton as Duarto Feliz, William Jackson Harper as Character Men, and Julie Halston as Character Women. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

The evening is produced in arrangement with Paramount Pictures by The Indigo Theatre Project (Nick Gereffi, Artistic Director/Rachel Sussman, Executive Producer), with line producing by Allison Bressi. Shoshana Feinstein serves as associate producer.

Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton led the cast of the 1996 film The First Wives Club, alongside Stephen Collins, Victor Garber, Dan Hedaya, Stockard Channing, Elizabeth Berkley, Sarah Jessica Parker, Bronson Pinchot, Marcia Gay Harden, Maggie Smith, Jennifer Dundas, and Philip Bosco.
