Debra Winger to Join Patti LuPone in Broadway Production of David Mamet’s The Anarchist

Debra Winger will join the previously reported Patti LuPone in the Broadway production of writer/director David Mamet’s The Anarchist. This American premiere will begin performances at a theater to be announced on November 13, with an opening set for December 2.

The play — about politics, money, religion and sex — will pit a female inmate pleading for parole against the prison’s female governor.

Winger replaces the previously reported Laurie Metcalf in the two-hander. Winger’s previous stage credits include How I Learned to Drive and Ivanov at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts and The Exonerated in New York. She is best known for her film work, including her Oscar-nominated performances in An Officer and A Gentleman, Terms of Endearment and Shadowlands.
