Playwrights Horizons has announced complete casting for its New York premiere productions of Anne Washburn’s new play Mr. Burns, a Post Electric Play. The production will launch the company’s 2013-14 mainstage season, beginning performances on August 23 with an official opening set for September 15. The limited engagement will run through October 6.

Obie Award winner Steve Cosson will direct a cast featuring Obie Award winner Quincy Tyler Bernstine (Playwrights Horizons’ current production of Far From Heaven), Gibson Frazier (There Are No More Big Secrets), Susannah Flood (Tribes), two-time Obie Award winner Matthew Maher (The Flick), two-time Audelco Award nominee Nedra McClyde (Headstrong), Jennifer R. Morris (Gone Missing), Colleen Werthmann (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), and Sam Breslin Wright (The Temperamentals).

Mr. Burns, a Post Electric Play is a dark comedy set nearly a century in the future in a society that has been completely demolished. A group of survivors begins the process of rebuilding by reminiscing about The Simpsons and other pop culture icons of today.

The play comes to Playwrights Horizons after enjoying its world premiere at Woolly Mammoth Theater Company in May 2013. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday, July 22.
