On Monday, August 2 at 7pm, members of the cast and creative team of Caroline, or Change will appear at the Barnes & Noble store located at 33 East 17th Street in Union Square to sign copies of the show’s recently released cast album and to participate in a Q&A discussion of the musical.

Among those scheduled to participate in the event are playwright-librettist Tony Kushner, composer Jeanine Tesori, and cast members Tonya Pinkins (Caroline Thibodeaux), Anika Noni Rose (2004 Tony Award winner for her performance as Emmie Thibodeaux), Veanne Cox (Rose Stopnick Gellman), Chandra Wilson (Dotty Moffett), Chuck Cooper (The Dryer/The Bus), Larry Keith (Mr. Stopnick), and Alice Playten (Grandma Gellman).

Caroline, or Change is set in Louisiana in 1963, just before the assassination of President Kennedy and during the Civil Rights movement. Caroline is the black maid of a Southern family made up of a father, his new wife and the man’s young son. The son’s birth mother has recently died and the stepmother is trying to establish a relationship with the child, who already has a close connection with Caroline.

The two-CD original cast recording of the musical was released on June 29 by Hollywood Records. It was produced by composer Jeanine Tesori; executive produced by Mitchell Leib, Glen Lajeski, and Billy Rosenfield; and associate produced by Michael Rafter
