Reed Birney, Jarlath Conroy, and Tony Award winner Fritz Weaver will star in a free reading of Mark Doherty’s Trad at 3pm on Tuesday, July 25 at the Irish Repertory Theatre (132 West 22nd Street), presented in cooperation with the Galway Arts Festival.

The play follows the relationship of Da, an ancient Irish widower, and his 100-year-old son Thomas. Da is disappointed that Thomas has never become a father, but the fact is that he may have a son out in the world somewhere. Doherty won the 2004 BBC Radio Drama Award for this play.

Weaver has starred in more than a dozen Broadway shows. He won a Tony Award for his performance in Child’s Play and was nominated for The Chalk Garden. Birney’s many New York stage credits include Gemini, Bug, and Stuff Happens. Conroy is Ian McDiarmid’s standby in the Broadway production of Faith Healer; he previously appeared on Broadway in such shows as Comedians, The Visit, and The Iceman Cometh.
