59E59 Theaters is presenting a limited engagement run of Michael Mejas’ play Ghetto Babylon, set to run August 1-18 with an official opening scheduled for August 7.

Gregory Simmons will reprise his direction of the play after mounting it at The Huron Club at SoHo Playhouse for the Dramatic Question Theatre in November 2011. The cast features Malik Ali (Boardwalk Empire), Sean Carvajal (award-wining short film Crush on HBO), Talia Marrero (off-Broadway debut), Alejandro Rodriguez (Romeo & Juliet with The Acting Company), Rodney Roldan (Nurse Jackie), and Andrew Schoomaker (Writers Retreat at the 2013 Strawberry Theatre Festival, Best Actor Award).

Ghetto Babylon, for which Mejas was awarded the 2012 National Latino Playwriting Award, is set in 1982 in the South Bronx. It tells the coming-of-age story of 14-year-old Charlie Rosa whose imaginary friend helps him through a summer of baseball, bullies, boarding school and of course, girl troubles.
