Volleygirls, winner of the 2013 New York Musical Theatre Festival's Promising New Musical Award, will present a cabaret-style concert at 54 Below on Wednesday, July 30, at 9:30pm. The show will be hosted by Vollegirls alum Susan Blackwell ([title of show]) and will benefit the It Gets Better Project, a nonprofit that supports LGBT youth.

Directed by Neil Patrick Stewart, the 2013 NYMF production of Vollyegirls featured a book by Rob Ackerman, lyrics by Sam Forman, music by Eli Bolin, and choreography by Ryan Kasprazak. The story follows an oddball group of high school volleyball players who are being coached by disgraced former Olympian Kim Brindell (Blackwell). "Volleygirls is a musical that fights for the power of good," says producer Jacob Harvey, "and encourages every young person whether gay or straight, jock or nerd, to be who you are and stay true to yourself."

The performance will feature Krysta Rodriguez (First Date, Smash), Eric Michael Gillett (Kiss Me, Kate), PJ Adzima, Benjamin Howes ([title of show]), Jennifer C. Johnson, Julia Knitel (Bye Bye Birdie), Gerianne Perez, Allison Posner, Dana Steingold (Calvin Berger), Allison Strong (Bye Bye Birdie), and more. The concert, also directed by Stewart, will feature the "Sweat" Band, composed of Mike Pettry, Eric Davis, Brendan O'Grady, and Alex Wyatt, with musical direction by composer Eli Bolin.
