The Music Man to Perform at the Democratic Convention in L.A.

Professor Harold Hill will bring the boys’ band from River City, Iowa to Los Angeles on Monday, August 14, to perform at the Democratic National Convention.

Craig Bierko and the cast of Broadway’s hit revival of the Meredith Willson classic The Music Man will perform the show’s rousing signature tune “Seventy-Six Trombones” at the convention. To add a little extra oom-pah-pah to the proceedings, a 300-piece marching band will accompany the cast.

If you’re planning on seeing the show in New York that weekend, don’t fret; Bierko and company will jet out to L.A. on their day off, appear at the convention that night, then return to N.Y.C. in time for their Tuesday evening performance. (No rest for Prof. Hill this weekend, but such is the life of a traveling salesman.)

The revival of The Music Man, directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman, opened on Broadway at the Neil Simon Theatre on April 27 and continues to delight audiences from around the country. The Democratic National Convention, opening on August 14 for a limited engagement of four days, will likely attempt to do the same.
