Alda, Danner, Irons, Mirren, Mullally, Piven, et al. Win Emmy Awards

Tony Award winners Blythe Danner and Jeremy Irons were among the winners at the 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which were held tonight at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Danner, who will return to the Off-Broadway stage this season in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of Suddenly Last Summer, picked up her second consectutive Emmy as Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Izzy in Showtime’s Huff. Irons, who won the Tony for The Real Thing, won the Emmy as Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for his role as Robert Dudley in HBO’s Elizabeth I.

Dame Helen Mirren, last seen on Broadway in Dance of Death, was named Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for the title role of Elizabeth I.
Andre Braugher, a veteran of such Public Theater productions as Measure for Measure and Henry V, was named Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries for Thief. Tony Shalhoub, a Tony nominee for Conversations with My Father, won his third Emmy as Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Monk.

Alan Alda, a three-time Tony nominee, was named Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on NBC’s The West Wing. Jeremy Piven, who was seen Off-Broadway in Fat Pig, was named Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for HBO’s Entourage. Megan Mullally, a veteran of such Broadway shows as Grease, was named Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on NBC’s Will & Grace.
