Casting has been completed for the Atlantic Theater Company’s New York premiere of Tina Howe’s Birth and After Birth. Directed by Christian Parker, the production will star Peter Benson, Jeff Binder, Kate Blumberg, Jordan Gelber, and Maggie Kiley. It will begin previews at the Atlantic on September 13 and will open officially on October 3.

In Birth and After Birth, a couple’s hopes of maintaining the image of a perfect, blissful family are dashed when their four-year-old son’s behavior goes out of control on his birthday.

Benson played Prez in last season’s revival of The Pajama Game; his other Broadway credits include Wonderful Town, Cabaret, and Little Me. Binder will give his final performance tonight in the Atlantic’s Broadway production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore; he previously appeared on Broadway in The Lion King and Side Man. Blumberg’s numerous credits with the Atlantic include A Second Hand Memory, Writer’s Block, and the double bill of Celebration and The Room. Gelber created the role of Brian in Avenue Q. Kiley has appeared at the Atlantic in The Water Engine, Frame 312, and the double bill of The Bald Soprano and The Lesson.
