Belcon, Cooper, et al. Set for Sondheim Revue Being Alive in Westport

Casting has been announced for Being Alive, a revue of the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim, to play the Westport Country Playhouse, August 24-September 9. The show is conceived and directed by Billy Porter, who has given new arrangements to Sondheim’s showtunes and interwoven songs with the words of William Shakespeare.

The show’s cast will feature Natalie Venetia Belcon, Chuck Cooper, Joshua Henry, N’Kenge, Leslie Odom, Jr., Ken Robinson, and Rema Webb. The creative team includes AC Ciulla (musical staging), James Sampliner (musical supervision), Michael McElroy (vocal musical direction), Mark Berman (musical direction), Allen Moyer (sets), Anita Yavich (costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting), and Brett Jarvis (sound).

Porter has starred on Broadway in Miss Saigon, Five Guys Named Moe, Grease, and Smokey Joe’s Cafe. He appeared in the Actors’ Fund benefit concerts of Dreamgirls and Hair, as well as his solo show Ghetto Superstar at Joe’s Pub.
