The musicals The Drowsy Chaperone and Curtains, and productions of the plays All My Sons, Elizabeth Rex, and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone top this year’s nominees for Los Angeles’ annual Ovation Awards, which will be presented at 7:30pm on November 13 at the Orpheum Theatre.
Over 50 Los Angeles-area productions received nominations this year. In addition, composer/lyricist Jerry Herman will receive the L.A. Stage Alliance Board of Governors Award for Lifetime Achievement, and the California Institute of the Arts Community Arts Partnership will receive the group’s Community Outreach Awards.

Among the many actors nominated for their work in musicals are The Drowsy Chaperone‘s Bob Martin, Sutton Foster, Beth Leavel, and Danny Burstein; Curtains stars David Hyde Pierce, Karen Ziemba, Megan Sikora, and Edward Hibbert; and Zorba stars Marc Kudisch, Judy Kaye, and Camille Saviola. Other nominees include Valarie Pettiford, Eric Anderson, and Nathan Lee Graham for the Blank Theatre’s production of The Wild Party, and Tony Award winner Harriet Harris for Reprise’s On the Town.
Acting nominees for plays include Alfred Molina (The Cherry Orchard), Jim Brochu (Zero Hour), Larry Bryggman (Romance), Laurie Metcalf (All My Sons), Leslie Jordan (Sordid Lives), and Dakin Matthews (Water & Power). Among the nominees for solo performance are Geraldine Hughes (Belfast Blues), Jay Johnson (Jay Johnson: The Two and Only), and Heather Raffo (Nine Parts of Desire).
