2006 Honorary IT Award Winners Announced

Tom O’Horgan, The Field, and The Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company will receive honorary awards as part of the 2006 New York Innovative Theatre (IT) Awards, which cover Off-Off-Broadway. The awards will be handed out on September 18 at the Cooper Union Great Hall; the ceremony will be hosted by Charles Busch, and presenters will include Lisa Kron, Martha Plimpton, Ben Vereen, and Lanford Wilson.

O’Horgan, who will receive the Artistic Achievement Award, has been one of the New York theater’s most notable directors for four decades; his productions include Hair, Futz, and Birdbath. The Field, which is the recipient of the Stewardship Award, is an organization that helps independent performing artists create new work, manage their careers, and develop long range strategies. Vampire Cowboys Theatre, which will receive the Caffe Cino Fellowship Award, has produced many shows based in stage combat and dark comedy. Their award comes with a financial grant.
