Broadway veteran Lewis J. Stadlen will headline the upcoming production of Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman at the Wilma Theater in Philadelphia. Directed by Jiri Zizka, the show is scheduled to run October 4-November 5 and to open officially on October 11.

The play, which won London’s Olivier Award and received a Tony Award nomination for Best Play, focuses on Katurian, a short story writer in a totalitarian country who is interrogated by two detectives about a series of child-murders that echo his own unpublished stories.

The creative team of the Wilma production includes Robert Pyzocha (sets), Janus Stefanowicz (costumes), Jerrold R. Forsyth (lighting), and Bill Moriarty (sound). In addition to Stadlen, who will play the detective Tupolski, the cast includes Saxon Palmer (Katurian), Michael Pemberton (Ariel), Pete Pryor (Michal), Aaryn Kopp (Mother), Jered McLenigan (Father), Kalev Patrick Rudolph (Boy), and Michaela Schuchman (Girl).

Stadlen is a two-time Tony Award nominee for Candide and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. His other Broadway credits include Minnie’s Boys, The Producers, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and four Neil Simon plays: The Odd Couple, The Sunshine Boys, Laughter on the 23rd Floor, and 45 Seconds from Broadway.
