Platinum recording artist and 2007 American Idol officially opened in the Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on September 14. The cast celebrated after the show at Angus McIndoe,

The show is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and features music and lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda, and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes.

The musical focuses on the tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan and the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition.

The company also features Kyle Beltran, Marcy Harriell, Priscilla Lopez, Bianca Marroquin, Olga Merediz, Rick Négron, Clifton Oliver, Courtney Reed, Shaun Taylor-Corbett, and Jon Rua.

Sparks, who is making her Broadway debut, was the youngest contestant to ever win American Idol. Her self-titled debut album was released in 2007 on 19 Recordings/Jive Records and went on to sell over 1.6 million copies worldwide
