Broadway’s New Spider-Man Announced; Reeve Carney Exits the Production
Reeve Carney, who created the title role in Broadway’s Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, exited the production September 15 in order to start work on the new HBO series Penny Dreadful. Stepping into Carney’s shoes will be Justin Matthew Sargent, who will play evening performances beginning September 17. Sargent’s Broadway credits include Rock of Ages and Bonnie and Clyde.
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, which plays Broadway’s Foxwoods Theatre, features music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy Award winners Bono and The Edge and a book cowritten by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, with direction by Taymor and additional direction by Philip William McKinley. The musical received two 2012 Tony Award nominations, for Best Scenic Design of a Musical (George Tsypin) and Best Costume Design of a Musical (Eiko Ishioka).
