Just when we started getting excited to see two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone take on a coven of witches on the third season of AMC’s American Horror Story came a tip that the Broadway legend will also be appearing on the new season of HBO’s Girls.

TheaterMania went straight to the source. During a recent interview we conducted with LuPone, we asked the Evita and Gypsy star about her involvement with Lena Dunham’s popular comedy. “I shot two episodes of Girls, which was thrilling,” she replied. “It was a riot.”

Shooting scenes with Dunham and fellow Broadway cohort Andrew Rannells, LuPone told TheaterMania, “I play a fictional version of me.” Even more enticing is her news that fake Patti’s husband will be played by stage favorite Reed Birney (Picnic). “I’m really thrilled to be on that show,” LuPone concludes.

Stay tuned for TheaterMania’s full interview with Patti LuPone, which will appear on Wednesday, September 25.
