Steve Cuden, best known as the cocreator of the hit Broadway musical Jekyll & Hyde and now the author of Beating Broadway: How to Create Stories for Musicals That Get Standing Ovations, will interview his longtime friend and colleague Randy Johnson October 19 at 5pm at the Drama Book Shop (250 West 40th Street). The event is free and open to the public.

Johnson will share his experiences writing and directing his new Broadway musical, A Night With Janis Joplin, as the two discuss the process of conceptualizing and structuring a show around a catalogue of beloved songs, securing the rights to existing work, finding the perfect leading performer, and many more elements that go into building a successful Broadway musical. There will also be a brief Q&A period followed by an opportunity for Cuden to sign copies of his new book.

A Night With Janis Joplin, a musical celebration of the iconic 1960s blues singer, will open October 10 at the Lyceum Theatre.
