Broadway set designer David Rockwell will be joined by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor, fashion expert Simon Doonan, and journalist John Hockenberry for a conversation celebrating his new book Spectacle, at the New York Public Library’s Celeste Bartos Forum at 7pm on Friday, October 20.

In Spectacle, Rockwell, in collaboration with noted designer Bruce Mau, provides an exploration of the phonemon and history of public performance and man-made events around the world. The book includes interviews with Taymor, the director of The Lion King, Doonan, the creative director of Barneys New York, Steve Wynn, Quincy Jones and many more. The discussion will be preceded by a presentation of images offering a visual tour of the some of the world’s most amazing public events to be projected around the Forum’s dome.

Rockwell, the founder and CEO of the Rockwell Group, has been nominated for the Tony Award for the set design of Hairspray, and received Drama Desk nominations for that show as well The Rocky Horror Show and All Shook Up. He also designed the sets for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and the upcoming Legally Blonde and created the interior of the Venetian Hotel’s Phantom of the Opera Theatre.

Tickets to the events are $15/$10 for library donors, seniors, and students. For more information, visit www.nypl.org.
