Eden Espinosa will play Elphaba and Megan Hilty will play Glinda in the new sit-down production of the hit show Wicked that will begin performances at Los Angeles’ Pantages Theatre on February 10. Both actresses have played these roles before on Broadway and in the national tour.

The show will once again be directed by Joe Mantello, who helmed the Broadway production and the tour. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. A different production of Wicked played the Pantages last summer as part of the national tour, selling out its seven-week run.

Based on Gregory Maguire’s book of the same title, Wicked tells the story of how young Elphaba became the Wicked Witch of the West and shows her rivalry and eventual friendship with the beautiful Glinda. The show has a book by Winnie Holzman, a score by Stephen Schwartz, and musical staging by Wayne Cilento.

The Broadway production of Wicked opened on October 30, 2003 and has attracted sold-out audiences ever since. The show received 10 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and won three Tonys. A sit-down Chicago production opened at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts on July 13, 2005 and is still running. The show’s national tour continues to be a huge success, and a London production opened in September at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, with Idina Menzel recreating her Tony-winning role of Elphaba.

Tickets for the L.A. production may be purchased by calling 213-365-3500 or 714-740-7878.
