Byron Jennings, Ron Rifkin, Chip Zien and More to Make Up Cast of The Twenty-Seventh Man

The full cast for The Public Theater‘s world premiere production of The Twenty-Seventh Man has been announced. Barry Edelstein directs the show, which begins November 7, and is now opening November 18 — a day earlier than previously announced.

Adapted by best-selling author Nathan Englander from his acclaimed short story of the same name, the play is set in a Soviet prison in 1952. Stalin’s secret police have rounded up twenty-six writers, the giants of Yiddish literature in Russia. As a new inmate – unpublished and unknown – is added into the cell, the writers grapple with the identity of this twenty-seventh man.

The cast will include Happy Anderson (Guard), Byron Jennings (The Agent in Charge), Daniel Oreskes (Moishe Bretzky), Ron Rifkin (Yevgeny Zunser), Noah Robbins (Pinchas Pelovits), and Chip Zien (Vasily Korinsky).

The production will feature scenic design by Michael McGarty, costume design by Katherine Roth, lighting design by Russell H. Champa, and sound design by Darron L West.
