Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Marlo Hunter Receive SDCF Callaway Awards

Santiago-Hudson was honored for ”The Piano Lesson”, and Hunter for ”Unlock’d”.

Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Marlo Hunter are the recipients of the 2012-2013 Joe A. Callaway Awards for direction and choreography in New York City theater productions. The honors are presented by the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation.

Santiago-Hudson receives the directing award for his production of August Wilson's The Piano Lesson at Signature Theatre Company. Hunter receives the choreography honor for her work on Prospect Theater Company's musical Unlock'd. Finalists included Davis McCallum (The Whale), Ciarán O'Reilly (The Weir), Lisa Rothe (Hold These Truths), Kimberly Senior (Disgraced), Tracy Bersley (The Civil War), and Greg Graham (Finks).

The Joe A. Callaway Award is the only award given by professional directors and choreographers to their peers. Previous winners include Susan Stroman, Harold Prince, Julie Taymor, and many others.
