Goodspeed to Present Singin’ in the Rain, High Button Shoes, and 1776

The musicals Singin’ in the Rain, High Button Shoes, and 1776 will be presented next season by Goodspeed Musicals at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Connecticut.

Singin’ in the Rain, the 1985 stage adaptation of the beloved MGM film about the early days of Hollywood talking pictures, will run April 20-July 1. The musical features a book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green and a score by Arthur Freed and Nacio Herb Brown. The production will be directed by Ray Roderick.

The 1947 musical High Button Shoes, which has a book by Stephen Longstreet, based on his novel The Sisters Liked Them Handsome, and a score by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn, will run July 13-September 22. The plot concerns a fast-talking con man who returns to his old hometown in the hopes of striking it rich. The production will be directed by Greg Ganakas.

Last up is the 1969 musical 1776, with a book by Peter Stone and a score by Sherman Edwards, which will run September 28-December 2. The show tells the story of the creation of the Declaration of Independence. The production will be directed by Gary Griffin.
