Kelly Felthous, DeQuina Moore Join Matthew Hydzik, Emily Padgett, and Rachelle Rak in Flashdance – The Musical

Cast members from the upcoming world premiere national tour of Flashdance – The Musical had their first day of rehearsal in New York City on Monday, November 19. The production kicks off on January 1, 2013 at Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Directed and choreographed by three-time Drama Desk Award nominee Sergio Trujillo, Flashdance – The Musical is based on the 1983 film of the same name, which tells the story of a young Pittsburgh steel mill welder who dreams of becoming a professional performer as she moonlights as a bar dancer.

Flashdance – The Musical features a score by Robbie Roth and Robert Cary that combines new musical material with hits from the film’s score, including “Maniac” and “Flashdance – What A Feeling.” The book is by Robert Cary and Tom Hedley, the latter of whom co-wrote the film’s screenplay with Joe Eszterhas.

Joining the previously announced Emily Padgett (Alex), Matthew Hydzik (Nick), and Rachelle Rak (Tess) in the cast will be Kelly Felthous (Gloria), DeQuina Moore (Kiki), Jo Ann Cunningham (Hannah), David R. Gordon (Jimmy), Matthew Henerson (Harry), and Christian Whelan (C.C.).

The musical’s ensemble will include Holly Ann Butler, Claire Camp, Derek Carley, Ryan Carlson, Natalie Caruncho, Lynorris Evans, Thursday Farrar, Charlene Hoffman, Holly Laurent, Jakob Karr, Dan Kohler, Brandt Martinez, Nicholas McGough, Ariela Morgenstern, Rebecca Riker, Andrea Spiridonakos, and Lawrence Street.

The production, which is aiming to hit Broadway in August, 2013, features scenic design by Klara Zieglerova, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, projection design by Peter Nigrini, sound design by John Shivers and David Patridge, music supervision and vocal and incidental arrangements by Jason Howland, orchestrations by Doug Besterman, and dance arrangements by Jim Abbott.
