The New Group production of Mike Leigh’s Abigail’s Party has received a second extension and will now play through April 8 at the Acorn Theater. As a result, the company’s production of The Music Teacher, by Wallace and Allen Shawn, will play the Minetta Lane Theater instead of the Acorn. That show will run February 21-April 8; no casting details have yet been announced.

Abigail’s Party opened on December 1 and was originally set to run through January 7. Earlier this month, the production was extended through February 11 due to strong ticket sales. A biting satire of British middle-class life, the play was first performed in England in the 1970s, where it became a huge phenomenon after a television version was aired.

Directed by Scott Elliott, the New Group production stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Max Baker, Lisa Emery, Darren Goldstein, and Elizabeth Jasicki. It features set design by Derek McLane, lighting design by Jason Lyons, costume design by Eric Becker, and sound design by Ken Travis.
