Darko Tresnjak to Direct L.A. Opera’s The Broken Jug and The Dwarf

Darko Tresnjak will direct the L.A. Opera’s double bill of Viktor Ullman’s The Broken Jug and Alexander Zemlinsky’s The Dwarf, February 17-March 8, as part of the company’s Recovered Voices project highlighting the work of composers affected by the Holocaust.

The cast will feature James Johnson, Steven Humes, Elizabeth Bishop, Melody Moore, Jason Stearns, Richard Cox, Bonaventura Bottone, Rodrick Dixon, Mary Dunleavy, and Susan B. Anthony.

The creative team includes James Conlon (musical director/conductor), Ralph Funicello (sets), Linda Cho (costumes), David Weiner (lighting), and Peggy Hickey (choreography).
Tresnjak is the artistic director of the Old Globe Theater’s Summer Shakespeare Festival.

In related news, principal casting has been announced for John Cox’s production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, February 16-March 5. The show will feature Ian Storey (Otello), Christina Gallardo-Domas (Desdemona), Mark Delavan (Iago), Derek Taylor (Cassio), Ning Liang (Emilia), and Eric Halfvarson (Lodovico).
