On Sunday, December 11 the new Broadway production of On A Clear Day You Can See Forever opened at the St. James Theatre. The show is directed by Michael Mayer, features music by Burton Lane and an original book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, with a new book by Peter Parnell.
The musical focuses on Dr. Mark Bruckner, a widowed psychiatrist in 1974, who begins to treat a troubled young gay man named David Gamble. Under hypnosis, David reveals that, in a past life, he was a 1940’s singer named Melinda Wells, whom Mark immediately falls in love with.
The company features Harry Connick, Jr., Jessie Mueller, David Turner, Drew Gehling, Kerry O’Malley, and Sarah Stiles.
Opening night guests included Jack Davenport, Mariska Hargitay, Edward Hibbert, Megan Hilty, Anjelica Huston, Brian D’arcy James, Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, Donna Murphy, Kelli O’Hara, Lily Rabe, Mo Rocca, Hilary Swank, Wesley Taylor, and George C. Wolfe.
