Young actresses Paige Brady, Gabriella Pizzolo, Ripley Sobo, and Ava Ulloa have joined the Broadway cast of Matilda The Musical and will begin performances in the title role over the course of the next few weeks, producers have announced. The current actresses playing the role, Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon, and Milly Shapiro, who shared a 2013 Tony Honor for their work, will gradually depart the production in the same time frame.

Brady, age 10, makes her Broadway debut in the musical after appearing in The Music Man at the Walnut Street Theatre. Ten-year-old Pizzolo also makes her Broadway debut and has played Young Cosette and Marta von Trapp regionally. Sobo, also 10, appeared in the original cast of Broadway’s Once. Nine-year-old Ulloa makes her Broadway debut after starring in her second-grade production of Seussical.

Matilda, which originated in London, is based on the beloved children’s novel by Roald Dahl and currently runs at the Shubert Theatre. It features a score by Tim Minchin, a Tony-winning book by Dennis Kelly, and direction by Matthew Warchus.
