Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons to Star in NBC's Elf Musical

The TV and Broadway star’s newest project is based on the movie and musical.

Broadway veteran and Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons is set for the lead role in an NBC TV musical titled Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas. The stop-motion animated movie will feature Parsons as the voice of Buddy the elf.

Elf: Buddy’s Musical Christmas, which is set to air at 8pm on December 16, is based both on the 2013 film, which starred Will Ferrell, and on the Broadway musical Elf. Other actors cast in the hour-long special include Mark Hamill, Ed Asner, Fred Armisen, Jay Leno, Matt Lauer, and Gilbert Gottfried.

Warner Bros. Animation produces. Mark Caballero and Seamus Walsh direct.

Jim Parsons was most recently seen on Broadway as Elwood Dowd in Roundabout Theatre Company's 2012 revival of Mary Chase's Harvey. In 2011, Parsons made his Broadway debut as Tommy Boatwright in Larry Kramer's Tony-winning The Normal Heart. Recently, he starred in HBO's original movie adaptation of the play.
