Lea DeLaria Jazzes Up David Bowie Catalog on New Album

Ghostlight Records is set to release the new CD from the ”Orange Is the New Black” star.

Orange Is the New Black star and Broadway vet Lea DeLaria is set to release a new album, House of David: delaria bowie = jazz, hitting shelves July 24, with a digital release on June 23. The CD comes from Ghostlight Records, produced by Matt Pierson with Jeremy Katz serving as executive producer.

The first major jazz reworking on Bowie’s beloved catalog, the album features tracks such as a smooth bossa nova interpretation of "Golden Years," a trenchant "Life on Mars," and a roof-raising gospel take on "Modern Love."

Featured instrumentalists are Kevin Hays on piano and keyboards, Tony Scherr on bass and guitar, Steve Cardenas on guitar, Kenny Wollesen on drums and vibes, Seamus Blake on saxophones, Bashiri Johnson on percussion, Shedrick Mitchell on Hammond B3, and special featured vocalist Janis Siegel.

DeLaria currently appears as inmate Big Boo on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, which returns for its third season on June 12. On Broadway, she has been seen in On the Town, The Boys From Syracuse, and The Rocky Horror Show. She served as host of the 2015 Obie Awards.
