National Theatre Live to Broadcast Behind the Beautiful Forevers Across the Globe

Rufus Norris directs David Hare’s adaptation of the book by Pulitzer Prize winner Katherine Boo.

National Theatre Live is pleased to announce plans for an international broadcast of Behind the Beautiful Forevers, a new play by David Hare, based on the book by Pulitzer Prize winner Katherine Boo. Rufus Norris directs the production which will broadcast live from the National Theatre of Great Britain’s Olivier Theatre on March 12. Screening dates will vary at venues internationally with encore screenings to follow.

Behind the Beautiful Forevers takes place beyond the luxury hotels surrounding Mumbai airport where there lies a makeshift slum. The plot follows Zehrunisa and her son Abdul, who aim to recycle enough rubbish to fund a proper house, and Sunil, a stunted 12-year-old who wants to eat until he’s as tall as Kalu the thief, along with other stories.

The cast includes Hiran Abeysekera, Esh Alladi, Nathalie Armin, Pal Aron, Tia-Lana Chinapyel, Vincent Ebrahim, Sartaj Garewal, Mariam Haque, Thusitha Jayasundera, Muzz Khan, Ranjit Krishnamma, Manjeet Mann, Nikita Mehta, Anjli Mohindra, Tia Palamathanan, Ronak Patani, Bharti Patel, Pehrr Ramrakhyani, Anneika Rose, Chook Sibtain, Gavi Singh Chera, Stephanie Street, Meera Syal, Anjana Vasan, Assad Zaman, and Shane Zaza.

The production features designs by Katrina Lindsay, lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by Paul Arditti, video design by Jack Henry James, and fight direction by Kate Waters.
