Patti LuPone will receive the Ellis Island Family Heritage Award at the Statue of Liberty–Ellis Island Foundation’s Gala in the Great Hall on Tuesday, May 19, at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Cocktails and the inaugural preview of the Peopling of America Center, a major expansion of the museum covering the pre- and post-Ellis years, will begin at 6:30pm, followed by dinner and an awards presentation.

LuPone is the recipient of two Tony Awards for her performances in Gypsy and Evita. She most recently starred in the Los Angeles Opera’s critically acclaimed production of John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles and will appear in the second season of the Showtime series Penny Dreadful. She will soon star in Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Douglas Carter Beane’s new play Shows for Days, directed by Jerry Zaks, this June.

Lupone's grandparents passed through Ellis Island when they came to America.

Also being honored at this year’s Gala in the Great Hall are designer and philanthropist Diane von Furstenberg and Harvard professor, filmmaker, and author Henry Louis Gates Jr. Meredith Vieira will serve as host for the evening.
