Signature Theatre's The Liquid Plain Announces New York Premiere Casting

Naomi Wallace’s new play about 18th-century slaves will open off-Broadway this March.

Casting has been announced for the upcoming New York premiere of Naomi Wallace's The Liquid Plain, running at the Pershing Square Signature Center from February 17-March 29, with an official March 8 opening.

Directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, The Liquid Plain is set on the docks of late-18th-century Rhode Island where two runaway slaves, Adjua and Dembi, plan a desperate run to freedom. When a chance encounter triggers an unexpected collision of worlds, painful truths are uncovered and the brutality of past crimes spills into the next generation.

The cast will feature Ito Aghayere (The Tempest) as Dembi, LisaGay Hamilton (The Practice) as Bristol, Robert Hogan (One Life to Live) as James De Wolfe, Michael Izquierdo (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Cranston, Kristolyn Lloyd (Heathers) as Adjua, Karl Miller (Completeness) as Balthazar/William Blake, Tuck Milligan (The First Breeze of Summer) as Gifford, Tara A. Nicolas (The Blacklist) as Guinea Worm, Johnny Ramey (Julius by Design) as Liverpool Joe, and Lance Roberts (This Is Where I Leave You) as Nesbitt.

The design team includes Riccardo Hernandez (scenic design), Paul Tazewell (costume design), Thom Weaver (lighting design), Shane Rettig (sound design), Alex Koch (projection design), and UnkleDave’s Fight-House (fight direction).
