Hair Veteran Steel Burkhardt Will Join Disney's Aladdin on Broadway

Burkhardt will take on a role in the new musical.

Stage veteran Steel Burkhardt will join the Broadway production of Disney's Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theatre beginning December 22. Burkhardt will take on the role of Kassim, originated by Brandon O'Neill, who departs on December 21.

Burkhardt was last seen on Broadway as Berger in Hair, and also appeared in the show's West End company. He has also been seen in Much Ado About Nothing, Jukebox Jackie, and Murder Ballad.

Featuring a score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice with songs such as "Friend Like Me" and the Academy Award-winning "A Whole New World," Aladdin will use a new book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer).

The creative team includes Bob Crowley (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costume design), Natasha Katz (lighting design), Ken Travis (sound design), Jim Steinmeyer (illusions), Josh Marquette (hair design), Michael Kosarin (music supervisor/vocal and incidental arrangements), Danny Troob (orchestrator), and Glen Kelly (dance music arranger).

The company is led by Adam Jacobs as Aladdin, 2014 Tony award winner James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie, Courtney Reed as Princess Jasmin, and Jonathan Freeman as Jafar.
