Neil Diamond, Darlene Love, et al. Among Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

Broadway veteran Darlene Love and music icons Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond, Dr. John, and Tom Waits will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame according to The New York Times. The ceremony will be held on March 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.

The remaining artists on this year’s nominee list were Beastie Boys, Bon Jovi, Donovan, LL Cool J, Chic, Geils Band, Lauro Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, and Chuck Willis. Artists become eligible for nomination 25 years after the release of their first single or album.

In addition, Leon Russell is being honored with the award for musical excellence (formerly known as the sidemen award), and nonperformer honors will go to Jac Holzman, who founded Elektra Records, and Art Rupe, who created the Specialty label.

Love’s Broadway credits include and Hairspray. Last week, she made a special appearance for the encore of Million Dollar Quartet.
