Harlem Stage Announces Spring 2011 Season

Harlem Stage has announced its 2011 spring season.

Among the offerings at the venue in the first part of the year will be director Elise Theron’s adaptation of Jonot Diaz’ The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which will be performed by Elvis Nolasco on March 19.

Additionally, Harlem Stage will offer once-a-month installments of its Uptown Open open-mic series for poets and spoken word artist on February 17, March 17, April 21 and May 19. Other theater-based work will include Cabaret Chocolat (February 12), a fusion of illusion, burlesque, aerial spectacle, dance, and song.

Dance offerings at Harlem Stage will include an engagement by Urban Bush Women (April 28-May 1) and E-Moves 12 (April 8-16), a showcase of work by emerging choreographers. In addition, The Tap Messengers will serve as the opening act for a concert by the Marcus Strickland Quartet on March 11.

Harlem Stage will offer other concerts during the coming months including The Fats Waller Dance Party, Small’s Paradise Tribute (May 13-14), Jason Moran and Meshell Ndegeocello’s recreation and re-examination of the after-hours events that featured Waller and other musicians in jam sessions; and Habana Harlem: Tribute to the Park Palace with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra (May 15).
