Avenue Q, running off-Broadway at New World Stages, will celebrate New York City's Pride weekend by donating $25 for every ticket purchased to Point Foundation, the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ students of merit. Patrons are invited to use promo code AQPOINT617 at the New World Stages Box Office or at Telecharge.com, to support the Point Foundation cause.

One third of LGBTQ students drop out of high school to escape violence, harassment, and isolation — a dropout rate nearly three times the national average. As a result, many LGBTQ students say they are not planning to apply to college. Point empowers promising LGBTQ students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential, so they can attain their higher education degrees and make a significant impact on society.

Avenue Q is the Tony Award-winning musical comedy featuring a diverse cast of people and puppets, now in its 13th year on stage in New York and around the globe. The show features a Tony-winning score by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and a Tony-winning book by Jeff Whitty.

Avenue Q‘s Kate Monster says, "I always tell my students, ‘If you want to have control of your life, you're going to need an education to get started. Staying in school instills you with knowledge, confidence, security, and a sense of belonging.’ Take it from someone who grew up being mocked for being a furry 'Monster' — hang in and you can be like me and have a great, rewarding career: in education, as the star of a Broadway musical, or whatever it is that you want to be. Don't give up, because you owe it to yourself to be a more informed person who can make good things happen for yourself and for others."
