Following major renovations at the Davenport Theatre Black Box, the newly remodeled off-Broadway theater space has been renamed the Loft at the Davenport Theatre.

"I wanted to create a space that speaks to today’s theater creators and audience," said producer Ken Davenport. "I’ve ripped out the old rigid theater seating, added new flexible seating, and nearly doubled the size of the theater, which allows for a more creative use of the space. Today’s writers, directors and audience want a flexible theatrical venue, and that’s exactly what this renovation has done. I’m looking forward to seeing the first production at The Loft at the Davenport Theatre where the audience is on the ceiling."

The Loft at the Davenport Theatre now provides up to 810 square feet of playing space, and a maximum seating capacity of 99. Before the renovation, the stage was 441 square feet, with a maximum seating capacity of 60.

The first production slated to run at the Loft at the Davenport Theatre is A Dog Story, which begins previews November 3rd. The new musical features music and lyrics by Gayla D. Morgan and book by Eric H. Weinberger.
