Tooting Arts Club’s acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd will come to New York City following sold-out runs in London where the show debuted in Harrington’s Pie and Mash Shop, the oldest continuously operating pie shop in Britain.

Directed by Bill Buckhurst, the working pie-shop environment will be re-created at the Barrow Street Theatre where performances will begin February 14, 2017 in advance of a March 1 opening. Benjamin Cox will serve as music supervisor with design by Simon Kenny. Traditional pie and mash will be served prior to the performance.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, Sweeney Todd first opened on Broadway at the Uris Theatre (now the Gershwin) in 1979 under Harold Prince's direction. The show received eight Tony Awards and 11 Drama Desk Awards that year and has since seen two Broadway revivals. The musical tells the story of a barber who seeks vengeance on what he sees as a merciless world by murdering his customers and, with the help of his landlady, baking their bodies into meat pies.

The upcoming production is produced by Rachel Edwards, Jenny Gersten, Seaview Productions, and Nate Koch, Executive Producer, in association with Barrow Street Theatre.

Additional casting and production details will be announced at a later date.
