Irish Repertory Theatre announced today an extension for Woody Sez: The Life & Music of Woody Guthrie, directed by Nick Corley, which will now run through August 20. The production began performances on June 1 at Irish Repertory Theatre on the Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage and officially opened on June 8.

Woody Sez follows the life of Woody Guthrie through songs like "This Land Is Your Land" and "So Long, It’s Been Good to Know Yuh." Not only was Woody a seminal influence on Bob Dylan and Joan Baez; he also inspired generations of Irish folk singers like the Clancy Brothers and Christy Moore. His songs may have told the stories of the disenfranchised in the Dust Bowl, but his recurrent themes speak of famine, workers' rights, and emigrant strife.

The current cast features Megan Loomis, David M. Lutken, Helen J. Russell, and Andy Teirstein. Beginning July 12, Darcie Deaville will join the production, replacing Loomis, with David Finch taking over for Teirstein.

The production features lighting design by Michael Gottlieb, set design by Luke Hegel-Cantarella, costume design by Jeffrey Meek, and music direction by Lutken.
