Off-Broadway's Noor Theatre has announced plans for its seventh season of Highlight, a reading series that sheds light on the talents of playwrights of Middle-Eastern descent. All Highlight readings will take place in New York Theatre Workshop's third floor rehearsal studio.

The series will kick off on September 26 with two presentations of Ismail Khalidi's Dead Are My People, Noor's first full-length play commission. Directed by Charlotte Brathwaite, the play follows a man who flees his home in the mountains of Lebanon during World War I to make a journey to the U.S., where he navigates the real and imagined lines of the Jim Crow South. Dead Are My People features music by Hadi Eldebek. The cast will include Doug Chapman, Peter Ganim, Nadine Malouf, Rocco Sisto, Hadi Tabbal, and Chinaza Uche.

Highlight will continue on November 15 with Dalia Taha's Fireworks, translated by Clem Naylor and directed by Katie Pearl. Set in a Palestinian town, the story finds 11-year-old Lubna and 12-year-old Khalil playing on an empty stairwell in their apartment block as a siege intensifies outside.

Finally, Highlight will present Noura, Heather Raffo's reimagining of Ibsen's A Doll’s House, on December 13. Directed by Joanna Settle, Noura focuses on an Iraqi immigrant family in New York.
