59E59 Theaters has announced that Elysabeth Kleinhans, artistic director, and Peter Tear, executive producer, will both step down from their roles at the theater, effective May 7. Val Day, a longtime agent with William Morris and ICM, has been appointed the new artistic director. Tear's position will not be replaced.

Kleinhans will remain president of the board of directors, and take the title of founding artistic director for the Elysabeth Kleinhans Theatrical Foundation. Tear will devote himself full-time to consulting and commercial producing projects.

"With the selection of our new Artistic Director," said Kleinhans in a statement, "59E59 Theaters moves to a new phase as we complete the planned transition from the founding team to a traditional theater management structure, begun in 2012 with the appointment of Brian Beirne as Managing Director."

Since 2004, 59E59 Theaters has been dedicated to bringing the best new work from around the country and across the world to premiere in New York, aiming to provide a space for emerging and established not-for-profit theater companies to reach new audiences.
