The year is 2006, and there's been a big shake-up in the Milky Way: Pluto has been reclassified as a dwarf planet!
When news of its demotion reaches the small planetoid, Pluto leaves the solar system on a cosmic journey, meeting groovy satellites, fun-loving gas giants, and a galaxy of other celestial oddballs on its quest to become a planet again.
Pluto Is Missing! is a family-friendly space comedy that blends music, puppets, and fantasy with real science and space exploration history. You'll leave the theater with your head full of catchy songs and astronomical knowledge!
Created by Chris Mann Script and music by Chris Mann and Emily Duncan
While many children's theater troupes tell stories to kids, The Story Pirates believe that every kid has a story to tell. Made up of professional actors, improv comedians, and teaching artists, this troupe uses stories written by elementary school students as source material for over-the-top, sidesplitting musical plays. With songs, props, music videos, and puppets, the Story Pirates bring to life onstage what children have put down on paper (and computer).
At a typical show, there is no typical. Topics range from kung fu ninja babies fighting crime to the eternal love between the devil and a guy she meets at Starbucks. It's a world where cats can fly and Tickle Monsters have been known to take over the world. If the show sells out, the audience is treated to ice cream and cookies at the end!
The Anthropologists' This Sinking Island, directed by artistic director Melissa Moschitto, celebrates the courage of refugee communities impacted by climate change. Set in a landscape created from repurposed materials, This Sinking Island uses movement, masks, and live music to tell the story of a family who must leave all they've ever known in search of a new home. Crafted from research by the company with sea level rise science and climate refugee testimony, performances will feature a dynamic ensemble including resident actors Mariah Freda and Brianna Kalisch as well as PJ Johnnie and Chad Anthony Miller. "The time for cross-generational conversations is now," says artistic director Melissa Moschitto. "Our goal is to use theatre to build a bridge between understanding climate science and imagining a better and more just future. Tackling today's pressing issues with the spirit of youth can inspire hope and empathy."
Discover the secrets of your favorite neighborhood or museum on a Watson Adventures Scavenger Hunt. You won't be collecting objects (put back that statue!) but searching for answers to tricky and humorous questions. You can decipher a message in the sky in Central Park, find out what to do with a "fun goon" in Chinatown, track ghosts in Greenwich Village, solve a murder mystery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and much more. No knowledge of any hunt location is required — you just need a sharp mind and a good pair of shoes.
