John Dewey to Star in Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story at Bucks County Playhouse

The biomusical will open this summer in New Hope.

Full casting has been announced for Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story at Bucks County Playhouse. Performances are set to begin June 24 in advance of a June 25 opening.

The cast includes John Dewey (Hello, Dolly!) as Buddy Holly, Karak Osborn (She Stoops to Conquer) as ‘The Big Bopper’ J.P. Richardson, Gilbert Sanchez (Showgirls the Musical) as Ritchie Valens, Zach Cossman (Band Geeks: The Musical) as Jerry Allison, James David Larson (Into the Woods) as Joe B. Mauldin, Natalie Haro (Nickelodeon’s Fred: The Show) as Maria Elena Santiago, Andrew Frace (Jersey Boys) as Hipockets Duncan, Kent M. Lewis (Mama Mia!) as Norman Petty, Max Sangerman (The Lightning Thief) as Tommy Allsupp, Elizabeth Nestlerode (The Meanest Birthday Girl) as Vi Petty, and Brandi Massey (The Color Purple) as Apollo Performer.

Directed by Tony nominee Hunter Foster (The Bridges of Madison County) with choreography by Lorin Latarro (Waitress), the show features a book by Alan Janes and music and lyrics by Buddy Holly. The score is made up of more than 20 of Holly’s greatest hits, including "That’ll Be The Day," "Peggy Sue," and "Oh Boy." The musical premiered on Broadway in 1990 and ran for over 10 years in London’s West End.

Paul Masse serves as musical director, with scenic design by Adam Koch, lighting design by Gina Scherr, costume design by Nicole V. Moody, and sound design by Matthew Given.

Performances will run through July 16.
