Walnut Street Theatre has announced its 2017-18 lineup, marking the historic theater's 209th season.

Opening the season will be Stephen Sondheim's classic musical comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (September 5-October 22), followed by a production of Annie (November 7-January 7, 2018).

Next is Stephen Karam's 2016 Tony-winning play The Humans (January 16-March 4, 2018). Set in a lower Manhattan apartment, the story follows Pennsylvania native Erik Blake and his middle-class family as tensions reach a boiling point over Thanksgiving dinner.

Michael Frayn's backstage farce Noises Off (March 13-April 29, 2018) is next. The 1982 comedy follows a cast of actors as they rehearse for their opening-night performance of the farce Nothing On and face a gluttony of disasters.

The ABBA jukebox musical Mamma Mia! (May 15-July 15, 2018) rounds out the season. It tells the story of bride-to-be Sophie who attempts to learn the identity of her father by inviting three men from her mother's past to her wedding. The hit show ran on Broadway for 14 years, ending its stay in 2015.
