Heidi Blickenstaff (Something Rotten!) and Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening) will reprise their performances from the Signature Theatre world premiere of Freaky Friday for the musical's upcoming run at La Jolla Playhouse. Performances are set to run from January 31-March 12, 2017, in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

Blickenstaff and Hunton costarred in the Signature run as Katherine Blake and Ellie Blake, the mother-daughter-duo who swap bodies for 24 chaotic hours. Based on the novel Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers and the Walt Disney motion pictures, the musical features a book by Bridget Carpenter, and music and lyrics by Tony-winning collaborators Kitt and Yorkey (Next to Normal, If/Then). Playhouse artistic director Christopher Ashley directs.

The Playhouse run will launch a three-theatre coproduction of Freaky Friday, heading from San Diego to the Cleveland Playhouse and Houston’s Alley Theatre. As previously announced, Blickenstaff and Hunton will lend their voices to a studio recording of Freaky Friday, released by Walt Disney Records.

Complete casting will be announced in the coming weeks.
