New musicals using the songs of Jimmy Buffett and Donna Summer are set to have their world premieres at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.

The venue's 2017-18 season will kick off with the previously announced Escape to Margaritaville, the Jimmy Buffett musical with a score culled from his hits and new tunes, with a book by Greg Garcia and Mike O'Malley. Christopher Ashley directs the show, scheduled to run in May and June 2017.

The Untitled Donna Summer Project, directed by Des McAnuff and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo, will premiere in November and December 2017. Featuring more than 20 of Summer's hits, the show explores the Queen of Disco's life.

Also on tap, in July and August 2017 is the world premiere of Rachel Bonds' At the Old Place, directed by Jaime Castañeda, as well as Hansol Jung's Wild Goose Dreams, directed by Leigh Silverman, in September and October.

Additional information about each production is still to be revealed.
