Disney’s The Little Mermaid begins performances tonight at 5th Avenue Theatre.

Based on the hit animated 1989 Disney film, Disney's The Little Mermaid follows headstrong Ariel, no longer content to live on the ocean floor under the rule of her father, King Triton. Convinced she’ll find happiness only on land, she sets off to find a world where she belongs, battling a cruel sea witch and finding true love along the way. Disney's The Little Mermaid was written by Alan Menken (music), Doug Wright (book), Glenn Slater and Howard Ashman (lyrics). Glenn Casale directs.

Diana Huley stars as Ariel. She is joined by Mevlin Abston (Sebastian), Jennifer Allen (Ursula), Steven Blanchard (King Triton), Matthew Kacergis (Prince Eric), Allen Fitzpatrick (Grimsby), Frederick Hagreen (Jetsam), Brandon Roach (Flotsam), Connor Russell (Flounder), and Jamie Torcellini (Scuttle). Completing the ensemble are Lisa Karlin, Michael McGurk, Amanda Minano, Taylor Niemeyer, Becca Orts, Marco Ramos, Robbie Roby, James Shackleford, Brian Steven Shaw, Dane Stokinger, Momoko Sugai, Brenna Wagner, Michael Wordly, and Brittany Zeinstra.

"The 5th Avenue Theatre has a tradition of producing a spectacular musical treat for families at the holidays, and The Little Mermaid is no exception," said executive producer and artistic director David Armstrong.

The production features the work of John MacInnis (choreography), Kenneth Foy (scenic design), Amy Clark and Mark Koss (costume design), Charlie Morrison (lighting design), Ed Chapman (sound design), Gareth Owen (original soundscape design), and Leah Loukas (hair and wig design).

Performances run through December 31.
